Asia Day 6: Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, and the Great Wall

7/21/12

Sunny and clear! I thought it was super smoggy in Beijing, but turns out it was just the fog. I usually hate sunny days because it's usually so hot, but it was cool, clear and beautiful! Most days after a rainy period are cool because the rain cools of the earth, which is nice.

I'm so upset today. ; ;

Cut because it's a bit silly, but I've been on my edge for the past few weeks and I think someone finally pushed me off the cliff.

Asia Day 5: Ming Tomb, and lots of Rain

7/20/12

Breakfast. Yep, I can eat raw fish in the morning, but not dairy.
Excuse the crappy lighting, it was really dark. = =
 ba paoooo

It was very foggy and humid that day. It started to rain as well.

You can see my really long hair (it looks like I'm the girl from the grudge) and Danie trying to take a picture of something.

 Lazing around.
I love this soooo much. I've had this for a year and look at how much I have left!

Inside the car with our tour guide, and now Danie looks like she's from the Grudge.

Started raining ; ;

Arrived at Ming tomb.

Really foggy and gloomy as some people would call it (it's so nice and peaceful ;~;). I like it, but not good for photos. :\
Was attempting to take an artsy shot and show off the super sturdy umbrella, but the yellow be careful sign ruined it lol. But really, compared to the family mart umbrellas we had in Korea (didn't realize that it was rainy season, and that the hotel provided a fucking huge and sturdy umbrella) this was really, really nice. You can see our tour guide in this picture too~

Closer picture that is less foggy.

 Entrance.

The whole entire building is made entirely of grooves, not a single nail; nothing (the very little information I remembered the tour guide telling us because this was so long ago).

 Multiple crowns for different occasions.

A model of the type of ships they used.
Fun fact: Sailors would never get scurvy, because they grew bean sprouts on the ship to feed live stock.

Hair pins! Imagine what would happen if you slipped while pinning up your hair. \o/
More fun facts: Hair was very important, and unless your parents let you cut it, you couldn't cut it- this applied to both boys and girls, so their hair was very long and needed to be pinned up.

Jade belts. They could be accustomed to the thickness of the emeperor's robes

 Empress's crown.
 Pretty hairpin!

To be honest, my first thought was "Damn that's a lot of money", I will not lie.

The silver, bronze, and gold all rusted, but the jade didn't!
I forgot what these are... belts I think...?

 Currency of the time.
 Now onto the actual tomb.

We didn't actually go and climb the stairs to the Ming tomb because we were (supposed to be) going to the Great Wall after this and wanted to save our energy.

Unhappy Danie, and the really sturdy umbrella.

We then went to have lunch in a restaurant that was located inside a jade place.
You can see them making jade figurines and the like.

 White cabbage. So pretty~

 Bunny!

Jade necklaces, bracelets, rings, and the works.

Lunch~
I didn't take a lot of pictures because I felt some stares (life of an awkward blogger), so I only took a few pictures.

Eggdrop soup without MSG. Which pretty much defeats the purpose of egg drop soup, as the thick texture is gone, and it's literally the egg in some water with some vegetables. It was nice though, as it was really rainy.

Then we started for the Great Wall after lunch. It was raining pretty hard when we started for it.

Not sure if you can see, but we were basically driving in a shallow river at some point.
We went back to our hotel because the roads were closed because of the flooding.

ate this amazing pudding

This is what happened because of all the rain.

Danie and I were (sorta) screaming because we really wanted to watch Happy Camp's 15th anniversary episode for Exo lol. In the end, I was able to find a working channel, and we ended up getting to watch it, so that was really nice. After Exo's segment was over, I knocked out.

And that concludes Day 5. ^^
